Oh the Laughter!

Yes, I know that Nolan is funny. Anybody who knows him has surely been caught up in his joy at one time or another. He’s a creative boy with a zest for life. He is curious, personable, and quick to laugh. Also, like many other children, he is able to describe and identify things in a way that demands giggles. I understand that I am his mother, and therefore more easily amused by his observations, but c’mon! The boy is hilarious!

Today we got the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly. It’s the coveted (at least by me) Oscar issue. Oscar is big and gold on the cover begging me to devour every word within. Seeing my delight, Nolan had to come see for himself what the big fuss was about. First he saw the multiple insets of nominees. “Lady Gaga!” he exclaimed pointing at Natalie Portman in Black Swan make-up. Of course I broke out in laughter. First, he is right. That is exactly what Lady Gaga might wear. But second, he knows Lady Gaga by name? How did that happen? And third, he understands typical Lady Gaga wardrobe? For some reason all of this had me in stitches. But it didn’t stop there. Oh no it did not.

Nolan was impressed by the Oscar statue. Since I corrected and explained about his Natalie Portman/Lady Gaga confusion, he decided to identify another icon on the cover. “That’s Iron Man, right? Another Iron Man. Except his nose is different.” I am laughing so hard that I’m sure Moira is startled, but I can’t stop. I’m imagining Oscar saving the world while simultaneously rewarding artists in the film industry with statues of himself (how conceited of him!). “He has three noses, right, Mama?” Oh my!

All of this was said as he still looked a bit crinkled from sleep: cheeks slightly rosy and hair rather tousled. And he was so proud. My laughter only made him more eager to share his observations. He granted me many lopsided grins, obviously pleased that he could so easily make me laugh. He was an adorable sight. It is during these times that I want to grab my children and squeeze them with all the love within me. These are my favorite and most cherished moments.

Not sure if the chocolate pretzel was a good idea. Jacob feels strongly that it was, though. :)

Jacob dug out the Pull-Up and insisted I put it on him as a hat. It took me a while to understand what he wanted, but that’s because it’s not the most obvious request. But he didn’t give up until I understood.
